Outdoor Cyanotype Workshop
Participants used cyanotypes to create images of the ecological environment in the dunes. This alternative photographic process creates immediate stunning blue and white images from objects and plant forms laid on the sensitised paper. Guided by the Gems in the Dunes experts, we worked to detailed information about the ecology of the dunes and the endangered ‘Gems’ that are at risk.
We recorded the time, place and names of the collections along with the cyanotypes, to develop a wider understanding of the dunes alongside a deeper connection to the habitat.

‘I loved everything about it – especially the wonderful flora and exhilarating sea air.’
‘We were amazed at the variety of species hidden in the Dunes and were inspired to look more closely at places we would normally walkthrough but not connect with.’

The Ainsdale Discovery Centre - situated adjacent to the beach and Ainsdale & Birkdale Sandhills Local Nature Reserve.
