Outdoor Porcelain Workshop
Participants used porcelain paper clay to capture impressions of plants and objects found in the landscape environment where the ‘Gems in the Dunes’ are located in partnership with National Trust Formby. Guided by the Gems in the Dunes experts on what plants to use, participants received detailed information of the ecology of the dunes and the endangered ‘Gems’ that are at risk while connecting to nature emotionally through artistic expression.
Alongside the creation of the art, participants recorded the time, place and names of the collections – in this way we have recorded botanical specimens ‘in the field’ in a fragile medium that also reflects the ecology.
Participants commented:
‘I’ll continue looking and enjoying the diversity of plant life thanks to this workshop.’
‘Meeting new people and using a different medium. Nice to have a go at something completely different.’
‘The great enthusiasm of the teacher and guides in the face of awful weather. Learning about a new sort of clay.’
