Pine Marten Box Making
These feeder boxes will help to research the numbers of Pine Martens in the Cragside area and so directly contribute to conservation through creative and artistic involvement of the community.
As Pine Martens come to feed a the boxes they are caught on camera… and so the boxes might be in a picture with a Pine Marten!
This Back from the Brink project, led by Vincent Wildlife Trust, have spent the last few years placing cameras to monitor Pine Marten numbers, and feeder boxes are vital for finding out where and how many there are in this area.
Lizzie Croose from Vincent Wildlife Trust explains …. ‘Pine martens are slowly beginning to re-colonise the forests of Northumberland and Cumbria, having declined severely over the last couple of centuries. With the help of volunteers and land managers, we’re monitoring where the martens are settling in these forests, to help inform conservation plans.’
