The Last Ditch
The Last Ditch was a creative event exploring the endangered Little Whirlpool Ramshorn Snail and the ditches and environment it thrives in. The tiny and beautiful snail can fit on the pad of one of your fingers – with room to spare!
Participants had the opportunity to see aquatic snails up close and in detail with pond-dipping activities, make mini clay snails and their homes or landscape paintings - foraging for autumn plants to create natural pigments for their artworks.
RSPB experts gave insight into the special snail, why it’s endangered and the Back the from the Brink project working to save the snail.
The event was for all ages and the local community loved getting to know this charismatic species.
Event took place at
Pulborough Brooks Nature Reserve
Artists Andy Evans and Gemma Gottelier from Outdoor Studios led creative activities inspired by the snail and the beautiful surroundings of Pulborough Brooks Nature Reserve - one of the last locations where the little snail can still be found.
