Outdoor Porcelain Workshop  for Adults

As part of our Gems in the Dune project join us and our community artist Sian Hughes for this Outdoor Porcelain Workshop for Adults.

We will be using porcelain paper clay to capture impressions of plants and objects found in the landscape environment  where the ‘Gems of the Dunes’ are located in partnership with National Trust Formby. We will be guided by the Gems in the Dunes experts on what plants we can use and they will also give us detailed information of the ecology of the dunes and the endangered ‘Gems’ that are at risk.

We will also be recording the time, place and names of the collections – in this way you will have recorded botanical specimens ‘in the field’ in a fragile medium that also reflects  the ecology.   I will fire the clay to create translucent porcelain pieces for you.

We will bring boards, rolling pins, clay and cutters, paper for recording and boxes to store. Please bring pen / pencil and a bag to carry the rolling pin and box.

This art activity is outside, so please check the weather and dress appropriately, we will be walking around the dunes. You may want to bring a water bottle and something to sit on.

Artwork will be kept after this workshop for a local exhibition and will then be available to pick up from the Ainsdale Discovery Centre – dates TBC.
